Ruth Knowles – Head of Nursery

The nursery is managed by Ruth who has a wealth of early years experience, gained during her career in teaching and childcare. Her qualifications consist of Early Years Professional Status and a BA Joint Honours Degree in Sociology and Business Management (University of Leeds) as well as being paediatric first aid trained and a designated safeguarding lead.

Ruth has a tremendous passion for early years and is very much a ‘people person;’ both of these attributes contribute to her striving to provide and manage a fun, caring and stimulating nursery for both young children and nursery practitioners.

Ruth states, “It is my mission to ensure and promote a safe and effective learning environment for all babies and children in our care in which their developmental journey is tailored to individual needs to maximise each child’s potential to flourish whilst preparing them for adult life. Positive relationships and strong bonds with parents are imperative to support the formation of firm foundations in each child’s early years. Effective teamwork is paramount and I take pride in the fact that the personnel at First Steps consists of professional, highly motivated and dedicated nursery practitioners.”

Genna - Deputy Manager/Pre- School Room Leader

Genna has a CACHE Level 3 in Childcare and Education and has been working in the early years sector for over 21 years. Genna is the Deputy Manager and also the Pre-School Room Leader. Previously, Genna has been the Acting Manager at First Steps. Likewise, Genna is also paediatric first aid trained and a designated safeguarding lead.
