Achieving in the Pre-school room
The children progress in to the pre-school room when they turn 3.
Although play-based learning is an integral part of the day, the children begin preparing for their transition to school as they complete the last part of their journey at First Steps. In addition to free choice learning, there is a greater emphasis on academic achievement through short, structured sessions where the children are encouraged to extend their knowledge and vocabulary through topic work, mathematical skills are developed whilst engaging in numeracy activities and early phonic focuses provide the foundations to learn how to read and write independently.
